Lars Jensen was born at Kollerod, Lynge Parish, Frederiksborg, Denmark on February 20, 1826. He married Olivia Jonsdotter at Herlev Parish, Frederiksborg, Denmark on April 26, 1857. He became very sick of Tuberculosis and couldn’t make a living because of his health. He felt he was leaving the burden of making a living to his wife, which was a great trial to him. He continued to grow weak from the disease.
He was the father of three boys, Carl, who died in infancy, Jens Peter, and Carl the second. Lars was a jolly good man and a lot of fun.
Lars was a heavy drinker, which was a great sorrow to his wife and children. However, he always saw the bright side of life, but did grow very despondent at times because of his inability to work and support his family. He tried to get the community welfare to help them, but not much help was available in those days.
When he was but thirty-eight years old, Lars hung himself on 17 May 1864. The death of their husband and father left Olivia and the children in very dire circumstances.
Jens Peter didn’t know too much about his father because of his father’s early death. He remembered his jolly personality, his wit, and his sense of humor. Jens Peter inherited his father’s disposition of being jolly and cracking jokes.
Lars Jensen died in the town of his birth, Kollerod, Lynge Parish, Frederiksborg, Denmark and was buried there on 22 May 1864.[i]
